Cosplay X Rules, Terms & Conditions

General Rules
  1. Eligibility

  • The cosplay competition is open to all attendees of GhMX. Minors (under 18) require parental consent to participate.

 

  1. Entry Requirements

    • All participants must complete registration and submit entries before the pre-registration on the day closes - 11am each day.

 

  1. Showcase

    • Existing Media: Costumes should represent characters from pop culture, anime, manga, video games, comics or original designs. Entrants must specify their costume’s source. Purchased costumes are permitted and judged according to specific criteria, with consideration given to modifications.

    • Original Characters: Costumes based on original designs are accepted.

 

  1. Attendance

    • Participants must be present for judging. Missing your scheduled judging time may result in disqualification.

 

  1. Behaviour 

    • All participants must maintain respectful conduct towards others. Disruptive, unsafe or inappropriate behaviour will lead to disqualification.

 

  1. Family-Friendly Standards

    • Costumes should provide appropriate coverage and align with a family-friendly environment. Excessive gore, graphic violence or objectionable elements are grounds for disqualification as determined by GhMX staff.

    • Profanity, slander, offensive language, and political or religious statements are prohibited.

    • Costumes cannot promote alcohol, drugs, tobacco, unsafe behaviour, or political agendas.

    • Costumes must not be obscene, offensive, or endorse hate groups or disparaging remarks about GHMX, individuals, or companies.

 

Costume Requirements
  1. Construction 

    • Costumes may be handmade, commissioned or purchased.

 

  1. Mobility 

    • Costumes must be manageable within the venue. For large costumes, notify staff in advance if mobility is restricted. Costumes must not hinder stage entry/exit.

  2. Size

    • Large wings, props, or costumes are allowed but should fit within the venue's dimensions. GhMX does not limit costume size but requests safe handling on stage. Competitors will be responsible for any stage or property damage.

 

  1. Weapons and Props 

    • All props and weapons must comply with event weapon policies. Real weapons, sharp objects or firearms are strictly prohibited. Unsafe props may be removed from the competition.

 

  1. Safety

    • Costumes should not endanger the wearer or others (e.g., no sharp edges, fire, or toxic substances). 

    • No acrobatics on stage. 

    • No water, sparkles or debris that could create a slipping hazard. 

    • Special effects or props must be pre-approved by GhMX staff during pre-judging.

 

Judging Criteria
  1. Existing Media

    • Construction Quality (Handmade): Evaluated on neatness, durability and material quality, including sewing, armour, 3D printing and painting.

    • Prop and Accessory Work (Handmade): Quality and craftsmanship of additional props or accessories.

    • Accuracy (Bought): The costume’s resemblance to the original, based on character-specific details.

    • Character Consistency (Bought): Makeup, wigs and styling should match the character.

    • Cohesiveness (All): How well all elements create a unified, impactful look.

    • Skill Level and Progression (All): Judges may consider the cosplayer’s development and experience level.

 

  1. Original Character

    • Unique Interpretation: Creative originality while maintaining recognizable character elements.

    • Design Innovation: Use of unique materials or techniques.

    • Cohesiveness: How well all components form a polished appearance

    • Skill Level and Progression: Judges may consider the cosplayer’s growth based on prior entries or experience levels.

 

Categories & Prizes

Awards will be based on judge rankings in the following categories:

  • Best Overall Cosplay

  • Best Craftsmanship

  • Best Group

  • Wildcard Award

 

GhMX reserves the right to adjust categories based on the entries received.

 

Terms and Conditions
  1. Photography & Videography 

    • By participating, entrants consent to being photographed and recorded for promotional use.

  2. Liability

    • GhMX is not liable for any injuries or accidents. Participants are responsible for their own and others’ safety.

  3. Conduct

    • GhMX reserves the right to disqualify participants who violate the rules or event code of conduct.

  1. Event Changes:

    • GhMX may modify these rules at any time. Participants will be notified of significant changes.

  2. Acceptance:

By registering, participants agree to these rules, terms and conditions.
